A fatal accident occurred on Interstate 80 in Roxbury, New Jersey, involving a Jeep SUV and a tractor-trailer. The incident took place early Wednesday morning when Shawn Burckure, a 52-year-old resident of Andover, NJ, lost control of his Jeep while driving
east on I-80. The vehicle ran off the roadway, traveled through an emergency U-Turn area, and struck the end of a guardrail. Subsequently, the Jeep continued into the westbound lanes and was hit by a Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling west. Burckure suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. No other injuries were reported at the scene. The accident led to the closure of part of I-80, including the Route 15 South ramp, and caused a fuel spill over large areas of the highway, necessitating extensive cleanup efforts. The crash is currently under investigation.
