What's Happening?
Italy's Fincantieri has secured a contract to upgrade the PPA-class multipurpose combat ships to a full combat system configuration. The agreement, signed with the European defense procurement agency OCCAR, involves integrating advanced capabilities into
vessels currently in service and under construction. Fincantieri, in partnership with Leonardo, will enhance the ships from 'Light' and 'Light Plus' configurations to a 'Full Combat System' setup, including improved cyber defense capabilities. The program aims to align the entire PPA fleet with the most advanced operational configuration, enabling the vessels to perform a range of missions from patrol and search and rescue to full combat operations.
