What's Happening?
Catoctin Mountain Park has announced a temporary road closure due to increased security measures. The closure will affect Park Central Road between the Hog Rock Parking Lot and the Camp Greentop entrance
from January 16 at 10 a.m. to January 19 at 8 p.m. Despite the road closure, all trails, parking lots, and public use areas will remain open to visitors. The park has provided trail maps at various trailheads and encourages visitors to check the park's website or contact them for more information on facility availability.
Why It's Important?
The temporary road closure at Catoctin Mountain Park highlights the ongoing need for security measures in public spaces, particularly those with significant visitor traffic. While the closure may inconvenience some visitors, it underscores the park's commitment to ensuring safety and security. The park's decision to keep trails and public areas open reflects a balance between maintaining security and providing access to natural resources. This approach helps preserve the park's role as a recreational and educational resource while addressing security concerns.
