What's Happening?
The Ohio Department of Development's BroadbandOhio office has announced a new initiative to improve high-speed internet access across northern Ohio. The project involves the construction of a middle-mile fiber network along the U.S. Route 30 Corridor,
which spans the entire width of Ohio. This infrastructure will connect Mansfield to Canton in the east and to Lima in the west. The initiative is part of a $20 million investment funded by Ohio's biennial budget under House Bill 96. The project aims to address connectivity issues by providing a robust infrastructure that internet service providers can use to deliver fast and reliable internet to communities along the corridor. The project will involve building a Point of Presence (PoP) in Mansfield, which will facilitate connections between various internet service providers. The Ohio Department of Development is currently accepting proposals from entities capable of executing the project, with a final proposal deadline set for February 2, 2026.
