What's Happening?
Noetra, in collaboration with major companies such as Sony, SoftBank, NEC, and Honda Motor, has launched a comprehensive research and development initiative to create a multimodal AI foundation model in Japan. This model aims to serve as the backbone
for AI-enabled robots and physical AI applications. The project involves 44 companies and organizations, including the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and Preferred Networks. The initiative will leverage advanced AI computing infrastructure, including approximately 27,500 Nvidia Rubin GPUs, to accelerate the development of AI models capable of processing text, images, video, and audio. The project is set to begin construction in April 2027, with operations expected by June 2028.
