Dr. Jesus G. Vega, a respected pathologist and educator, passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 95. Dr. Vega's career was marked by significant contributions to the medical field, particularly
in pathology. After completing his medical education at the University of St. Tomas in Manila, Philippines, he furthered his studies in the United States, completing his residency at Grant Hospital in Chicago. He held various prestigious positions, including Pathologist In-Chief and President of the Medical Staff at Grant Hospital. Even in semi-retirement, Dr. Vega continued to contribute to the medical community by assisting in the reorganization of the Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois Medical Center, where he served as an Assistant Professor for 14 years. Dr. Vega was also known for his passion for gardening, dedicating much of his time to cultivating a beautiful garden. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and his brother Ramon in the Philippines.
