What's Happening?
NTT Data, Sumitomo Corporation, and JA Mitsui Leasing have announced the formation of a joint venture, Intra-Asia Marine Networks (I-AM NW), to develop a major submarine communications system. The Intra-Asia Marine Cable (I-AM Cable) will connect Japan
with Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan. The project, estimated to cost $1 billion, aims to enhance regional connectivity and resilience by supporting rising data and AI-driven demand across Asia. The cable system will feature advanced technologies like wavelength selective switch (WSS) and space division multiplexing (SDM), offering a capacity of up to 320 terabits per second.
