ITM Power has announced a strategic collaboration with Rheinmetall to develop the Giga PtX Project, aimed at establishing a network of decentralized synthetic fuel production plants across Europe for NATO armed forces. The project seeks to enhance defense
energy resilience and operational readiness by deploying several hundred production plants, each with an electrolysis capacity of up to 50 megawatts. This initiative is expected to produce between 5,000 to 7,000 tonnes of e-fuel annually per facility. The collaboration combines Rheinmetall's Power-to-X expertise with ITM's electrolyser technology, initially focusing on the UK. ITM's share price surged over 40% following the announcement.
