What's Happening?
South Africa has initiated the Just Energy Transition (JET) Skills Desk as part of its JET Investment Plan (JET-IP) to develop a skilled workforce for the green economy. This initiative is aimed at accelerating the deployment of renewable energy, expanding green hydrogen and electric vehicle industries, and enhancing national energy security. Deputy President Paul Mashatile emphasized the importance of skill development in ensuring a just transition that creates employment opportunities. The initiative is supported by the Multi-Donor Initiative, a partnership between the South African government, the EU, Germany, and Switzerland, implemented by development agency GIZ.
