What's Happening?
Indian Railways has begun deploying DRISHTI, an AI and blockchain-powered workforce management system, to verify employee attendance and prevent fraud. Developed by ChainCode Consulting LLP in collaboration
with Billions Network and Aptos Foundation, the system uses facial recognition and tamper-proof digital records. It is designed to work offline, making it suitable for remote areas with unreliable internet connectivity. The rollout starts in Prayagraj and is expected to expand across the network. The system aims to address challenges like ghost employee fraud and administrative inefficiencies, which have historically plagued large organizations.
Why It's Important?
The implementation of DRISHTI by Indian Railways is a significant step towards modernizing workforce management in large organizations. By leveraging AI and blockchain technology, the system promises to enhance transparency and efficiency, potentially setting a precedent for other public sector entities globally. The ability to operate offline is particularly crucial for regions with limited internet access, ensuring that technological advancements are inclusive. This move could lead to substantial cost savings and improved governance, making it a model for similar initiatives worldwide.
