Cybercriminals are exploiting India's tax filing season through a sophisticated phishing campaign, as reported by researchers at Cyderes. The operation involves sending fake tax assessment emails that appear to be from the Indian Tax Department. These
emails trick recipients into downloading what seems to be an official tax utility, which is actually a multi-stage malware infection. The campaign uses two remote access trojans (RATs) to gain persistent access to victims' systems. The malware employs techniques such as DLL side-loading and in-memory execution to evade detection and maintain access.
