What's Happening?
Andrew Napier, an Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) graduate and former combat medic, visited EKU to share his experiences and donate a medical tool he invented. Napier, who served in Afghanistan and earned a Purple Heart, has transitioned from military
service to entrepreneurship, founding a company that produces medical devices. During his visit, he spoke to paramedic students about the realities of emergency medical care, drawing on his combat experiences. Napier donated the IntuBlade, a tool designed to assist paramedics in opening patients' airways for breathing tube insertion, to EKU’s Emergency Medical Program. His contributions aim to enhance the training and preparedness of future paramedics.
Why It's Important?
Napier's donation and insights are significant for the training of paramedic students, providing them with practical tools and real-world knowledge. The IntuBlade can potentially improve emergency response outcomes, directly impacting patient survival rates. Napier's transition from military service to medical innovation highlights the valuable skills veterans bring to civilian sectors, particularly in healthcare. His story underscores the importance of supporting veteran entrepreneurship and integrating their expertise into educational programs, which can lead to advancements in medical technology and training.
