What's Happening?
Jordan's water industry is leveraging ABB's digital and AI technology to address the country's severe water scarcity issues. The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Water Authority of Jordan have selected ABB's Genix Industrial IoT
and AI Suite to enhance water and energy data management. This initiative aims to improve energy efficiency and optimize operations across water utilities by using real-time data from multiple assets. ABB will also provide training and support to its local partner, Volt Automation, to ensure effective implementation. Jordan, ranked as the 15th most water-scarce country globally, faces increasing pressure on its water resources due to population growth, agricultural expansion, and climate change.
Why It's Important?
The adoption of advanced digital and AI technologies in Jordan's water sector represents a significant step towards sustainable resource management. By optimizing water and energy use, the initiative can help mitigate the impacts of water scarcity, improve service delivery, and support the country's climate change policy. This collaboration highlights the potential of technology to address critical environmental challenges and enhance resilience in resource-constrained regions. The project could serve as a model for other countries facing similar issues, demonstrating the benefits of integrating digital solutions into traditional industries.
What's Next?
As the project progresses, Jordan may see improvements in water management and energy efficiency, contributing to the country's sustainability goals. The successful implementation of ABB's technology could lead to further collaborations and investments in digital solutions for resource management. Other countries facing water scarcity may look to Jordan's experience as a case study for adopting similar technologies. The initiative could also drive innovation in the water sector, encouraging the development of new tools and approaches to address global water challenges.
