What's Happening?
Oster has issued a recall for approximately 1,290,000 French Door Countertop Ovens due to a potential burn hazard. The recall, announced on September 25, affects ovens sold in the U.S. and Canada, with about 104,195 units sold in Canada. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that the spring-loaded doors of these ovens can unexpectedly close, posing a risk of burns to consumers. Oster has received 95 reports of such incidents, including two cases of second-degree burns. The affected models include TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDG, TSSTTVFDMAF, and TSSTTVFDDAF, which were sold at major retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, Walmart, and online platforms such as Amazon and Overstock between August 2015 and July 2025. Consumers are advised to stop using the ovens immediately and contact Sunbeam Products Inc. for a free repair kit.
Why It's Important?
The recall is significant as it addresses consumer safety concerns related to a widely used kitchen appliance. With over a million units affected, the recall highlights the importance of product safety standards and the role of regulatory bodies like the CPSC in protecting consumers. The incident may impact Oster's brand reputation and consumer trust, potentially affecting sales and market position. Retailers involved in selling the recalled ovens may also face logistical challenges in managing returns and repairs. The recall underscores the need for manufacturers to ensure rigorous testing and quality control to prevent such hazards.
What's Next?
Consumers who own the recalled ovens are encouraged to contact Sunbeam Products Inc. to obtain a free repair kit, which includes a clip-on device to secure the oven doors. Oster and Sunbeam Products Inc. will likely focus on addressing consumer concerns and ensuring the repair process is efficient. The company may also review its product design and safety protocols to prevent future incidents. Retailers will need to manage the recall process, including customer communications and logistics for returns and repairs.
