What's Happening?
Cassava Technologies, led by founder Strive Masiyiwa, has announced plans to build five AI factories across Africa within the next year. These facilities will be located in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco. This initiative is part of the company's Sovereign AI Cloud strategy, which aims to expand Africa's data center footprint and reduce dependency on overseas infrastructure. Earlier this year, Cassava partnered with Nvidia to launch Africa's first AI data center in South Africa, utilizing Nvidia's processors. The new AI factories are expected to provide the necessary infrastructure for African businesses, start-ups, and researchers to access advanced AI capabilities locally.
