Heifer International, a global nonprofit organization established in 1944, is intensifying its efforts to alleviate hunger and poverty worldwide. The organization aims to close the Sustainable Living Income (SLI) gap for an additional 10 million smallholder
farmer households globally by 2030. This strategic acceleration will utilize the Sustainable Locally Led Development (SLLD) approach. Since its inception, Heifer International has supported over 36 million smallholder farmer families in achieving self-sufficiency while promoting environmental care. In Kenya alone, the organization plans to reach 625,000 smallholder farmers, including women and youth, contributing to Heifer Africa's broader target of 6.745 million. The initiative focuses on empowering communities through sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on women and youth, to help them secure sustainable living incomes.
