What's Happening?
Vår Energi has submitted an amended Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) for the Goliat Gas Export project in the Barents Sea. The project aims to increase oil recovery and extend the field's productive life by exporting associated gas currently reinjected
into the reservoir. Developed in partnership with Equinor, the project will utilize new subsea infrastructure to connect the Goliat FPSO to the Snøhvit system and Hammerfest LNG. The development targets approximately 112 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) of reserves, with first production expected in 2029. The project is estimated to extend the Goliat field's operational life by around 10 years.
Why It's Important?
The Goliat Gas Export project represents a significant investment in the Barents Sea's energy infrastructure, with potential benefits for oil production and economic growth. By optimizing reservoir management and exporting gas, the project aims to enhance oil recovery and extend the field's life, contributing to energy security and economic stability. The development supports future tie-in opportunities and expands export infrastructure, aligning with Vår Energi's strategic goals. The project's estimated $360 million investment reflects the company's commitment to sustainable energy development, with no expected increase in CO2 emissions due to the field's electrification from shore.
