What's Happening?
Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is actively recruiting multiple Managers for its Right-Fit Evidence (RFE) Unit. These Managers will be responsible for developing and overseeing a portfolio of advisory services focused on integrating evidence and learning
into the work of various organizations within the development and humanitarian sectors. The role involves inspiring the effective use of evidence among implementing organizations, funders, and government agencies. Managers will supervise Advisors, report to Associate Directors or Directors of RFE, and collaborate with colleagues across IPA's country offices. Key responsibilities include managing the execution of advisory engagements, serving as a primary contact for clients, and designing and delivering workshops and services to enhance data-driven decision-making. The positions are open to candidates based in Ghana, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Uganda, with a preference for those with existing permanent work authorization in their desired country.
Why It's Important?
This initiative by Innovations for Poverty Action is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness and accountability of international development and humanitarian efforts. By embedding evidence and learning into their operations, organizations can ensure that resources are allocated to programs that demonstrably improve the lives of people living in poverty. The focus on sectors such as education, health, and technology highlights the interdisciplinary approach needed to address complex global challenges. The emphasis on data-driven decision-making can lead to more impactful interventions, reducing wasted resources and accelerating progress towards sustainable development goals. Furthermore, by working with diverse stakeholders, including governments and funders, IPA aims to foster a culture of evidence-based policy and practice, ultimately benefiting vulnerable populations by ensuring that programs are not only well-intentioned but also effective.
What's Next?
The recruitment process for these Manager positions is ongoing, with a deadline to apply by November 1st, 2026. Once hired, the new Managers will begin to develop and manage their portfolios of advisory engagements, working with clients to implement evidence-based strategies. This will involve designing and delivering workshops, providing technical assistance for monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems, and advising on data use. IPA will continue to expand its reach and influence by supporting organizations in various sectors to integrate evidence into their work. The organization also plans to contribute to thought leadership and global influence through the production and dissemination of public goods, further solidifying the importance of evidence in humanitarian and development contexts.
Beyond the Headlines
The drive to integrate evidence and learning into humanitarian and development work reflects a broader shift towards greater accountability and impact in the sector. Historically, many interventions have been implemented without rigorous evaluation, leading to uncertainty about their effectiveness. IPA's approach, which emphasizes rigorous evaluation and the use of data, addresses this gap by promoting a more scientific and systematic approach to social change. This not only improves the efficiency of aid but also fosters trust among donors and beneficiaries. The focus on technology as a key sector for expertise underscores the growing recognition of its potential to innovate solutions for poverty and humanitarian crises, from data collection tools to digital inclusion initiatives. This commitment to evidence-based practice is essential for creating sustainable and meaningful improvements in the lives of the world's most vulnerable populations.
