What's Happening?
The Marion County Hospital District is launching a free, eight-week Diabetes Self-Management Series starting January 8, 2026. The program, held at the Forest Public Library in Ocklawaha, Florida, is open
to individuals aged 18 and older who are prediabetic, diabetic, or supporting someone with diabetes. Participants will engage in the Diabetes Education Empowerment Program (DEEP), which focuses on improving self-care through better eating habits, increased physical activity, and monitoring health metrics to prevent complications.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is vital as it provides accessible education and resources to individuals managing diabetes, a condition that affects millions in the U.S. By offering free classes, the program removes financial barriers, allowing more people to benefit from expert guidance on managing their health. This can lead to improved health outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and enhanced quality of life for participants. The program also underscores the importance of community health initiatives in addressing chronic diseases.
