What's Happening?
Fundación Cuenta Conmigo, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to supporting low-income families in Chile who have a family member suffering from cancer. The foundation was co-founded by Ana Wainer, whose son’s friend, Vicente, was diagnosed with pre-leukemia
and later relapsed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Despite the unsuccessful bone marrow transplant and Vicente's passing at age 11, the foundation continues to provide essential support to families. Ana Wainer, through her role at Lockton, has coordinated activities between the company and the foundation, earning her the Lockton Cares Community Impact Award. This award allowed her to direct a $25,000 donation to the foundation, which was used to purchase a utility vehicle for distributing donations to families in need.
Why It's Important?
The work of Fundación Cuenta Conmigo highlights the critical support needed for families dealing with cancer, particularly in low-income settings where state support may be insufficient. The foundation's efforts not only provide financial assistance but also raise awareness about the challenges faced by these families. Ana Wainer's recognition and the subsequent donation underscore the importance of corporate social responsibility and the impact that individual dedication can have on community support initiatives. This case exemplifies how personal experiences can drive meaningful change and support for vulnerable groups.
