What's Happening?
China's Chang'e-8 mission, scheduled for 2029, will include Africa's first lunar science mission, the Bounced African Low Lunar Sphere (BALLS). This mission will deploy a trio of spherical probes on the moon's south pole to form a radio astronomy array.
The BALLS array will observe low-frequency radio signals from space, which are not detectable from Earth due to atmospheric interference. This initiative is part of the Africa2Moon project, aimed at advancing space exploration capabilities in Africa.
