What's Happening?
In response to the severe drought conditions in the Snake River Basin, Idaho Governor Brad Little and Idaho Power officials have decided not to impose water curtailment on Snake River water trust users this summer. This decision comes despite water levels
threatening to fall below the minimum flow requirement established by the 1984 Swan Falls Settlement Agreement. The agreement, which resolved a historical dispute between Idaho Power and the state, mandates a minimum stream flow of 3,900 cubic feet per second near the Swan Falls Dam. Earlier this year, Idaho Power communicated to Governor Little that they would not pursue curtailment, prompting the governor to instruct the Idaho Department of Water Resources to secure storage water to compensate for the reduced stream flow.
