What's Happening?
Glenfarne Alaska LNG, LLC and Baker Hughes have announced a strategic alliance to advance the Alaska LNG Project. Baker Hughes will supply main refrigerant compressors for the LNG terminal and power generation
equipment for the North Slope gas treatment plant. The project is being developed in two phases, with Phase One focusing on an 807-mile pipeline to transport natural gas from Alaska's North Slope. The final investment decision for this phase is expected in December. Phase Two will add the LNG terminal and infrastructure to enable 20 million tonnes per annum of LNG export capability.
Why It's Important?
The Alaska LNG Project is poised to be one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects in U.S. history, enhancing national energy security and supporting economic growth. The partnership with Baker Hughes reflects the project's momentum and its ability to attract global partners. This development aligns with U.S. energy independence goals and strengthens the country's position in the global LNG market. The project is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic activity in Alaska, while providing a reliable source of energy for domestic and international markets.
What's Next?
The final investment decision for Phase One is anticipated in December, with Phase Two expected to declare FID in late 2026. Glenfarne has secured preliminary commercial commitments with leading LNG buyers in Asia, covering over 60% of the volume needed to reach FID. The project's progress will be closely watched by industry stakeholders, including government officials and energy companies, as it represents a critical step in advancing U.S. energy infrastructure and achieving energy security objectives.
