easing joint pain, weight loss, improved sleep, increased libido, enhanced tanning, and anti-aging effects. While some peptides, like insulin and GLP-1 drugs (e.g., Ozempic), are FDA-approved and have undergone rigorous testing, many of the compounds being promoted lack robust scientific data and FDA approval for their advertised uses. Dr. Lewis Nelson, dean at the Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, notes that peptides are not typically viewed as conventional medications, yet people are injecting them for various reasons. The market for these unapproved peptides is fueled by online vendors and influencers who sell them with a 'for research use only' disclaimer, bypassing federal drug regulations. This allows direct marketing to consumers under the pretense that the substances are not for human consumption, leaving buyers responsible for determining dosage and purity.
