Austin Peay State University’s Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program has reached a significant milestone by commissioning its 1,000th Army officer. Cadet Christopher Martin was commissioned into the Army’s logistics branch on May 8, during a ceremony
that celebrated the latest graduates of the Governors Guard Battalion. The ROTC program at Austin Peay began in January 1971 and has since been a substantial addition to the university, producing leaders of character for both the Army and the community. Martin, who earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, was previously a military police staff sergeant and transitioned to an active-duty officer through the Army’s Green to Gold Active Duty Option Program. The ceremony was attended by Martin’s family, and he was pinned by his grandfather, a U.S. Army veteran.
