A second peak followed at 1 p.m. ET, with about 4,400 users reporting problems. The outage also impacted other services such as Venmo, Snapchat, and Chime. AWS identified the root cause as an internal subsystem responsible for monitoring network load balancers, specifically within the EC2 internal network. EC2, Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud service, is crucial for providing on-demand cloud capacity. Amazon is actively working to resolve the issue, but has not yet provided a comment.
