What's Happening?
Tusculum University, celebrating its 232nd anniversary, has launched a fundraising campaign titled 'Give Like George Washington.' This initiative encourages individuals to donate to the university, honoring a historical $100 donation made by George Washington during
his presidency to the then-fledgling institution. The fundraiser, which will run through the remainder of the academic year, invites donations of $100 or any amount. It is part of the university's larger four-year, $13.5 million 'Frontiers' campaign. The 'Frontiers' campaign aims to raise $8 million for student scholarship support, $4.5 million for an enhanced student experience including the Center for the Arts, Honors Program, and Wellness Center, and $1 million for new projects and programs such as the Christian Leadership Institute and the Center for Free Enterprise and New Venture Creation.
Why It's Important?
This fundraising campaign is vital for Tusculum University as it seeks to enhance educational opportunities and support for its students. The historical connection to George Washington provides a unique narrative that underscores the university's long-standing commitment to education. By raising funds for scholarships, the university can make higher education more accessible, reducing financial barriers for students and fostering a more diverse student body. Investments in student experience areas like the Center for the Arts and Wellness Center contribute to a holistic educational environment, promoting well-rounded development. Furthermore, funding for new academic programs and institutes like the Center for Free Enterprise and New Venture Creation will equip students with relevant skills for the modern workforce, fostering innovation and economic growth in the region.
What's Next?
The 'Give Like George Washington' fundraiser will continue throughout the academic year, with the university actively soliciting donations from alumni, community members, businesses, and other supporters. Donors have the option to specify where their contributions should be allocated within the university. Tusculum University will also encourage donors to share personal messages about their reasons for giving, which may be featured on the university's social media pages or shared with students. The broader 'Frontiers' campaign will continue its efforts to reach its $13.5 million goal, with ongoing initiatives to secure funding for scholarships, student experience enhancements, and new academic programs. The university will likely provide updates on the progress of both fundraising efforts.
