Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have developed a wearable patch, NEUSLeeP, that helps users enter REM sleep faster and stay in that stage longer without the need for drugs or surgery. In a study involving 28 participants, the patch enabled
users to reach REM sleep 43 minutes earlier and remain in that stage for an additional 16 minutes. The device combines ultrasound stimulation and electrodes to monitor brain activity in real-time, marking a significant advancement in noninvasive sleep technology. The patch has shown promise in improving heart rate variability and emotional processing, potentially aiding in stress management.

The development of NEUSLeeP could revolutionize the treatment of sleep disorders and stress-related conditions such as PTSD and depression.
