What's Happening?
Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is collaborating with the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club to launch an eight-week Workforce Academy aimed at local youth. The program, starting this Wednesday,
is designed to enhance career exploration, workforce readiness, and postsecondary planning. Funded by Kentucky’s Kids Workforce Grant, the initiative will involve 24 students from Owensboro and Daviess County. Participants will engage in weekly sessions covering high-demand careers and essential employability skills. The academy will conclude with a celebration and completion ceremony on April 1.
Why It's Important?
The Workforce Academy represents a significant investment in the future workforce of Owensboro and Daviess County. By providing young people with the skills and knowledge needed for high-demand careers, the program aims to bridge the gap between education and employment. This initiative not only prepares students for successful careers but also supports the local economy by developing a skilled workforce. The collaboration between OCTC and the Boys & Girls Club highlights the importance of community partnerships in addressing workforce challenges and creating opportunities for youth.
What's Next?
Following the completion of the first cohort, the program's success will likely be evaluated to determine its impact and potential for expansion. The ongoing partnership between OCTC and the Boys & Girls Club may lead to additional initiatives aimed at further enhancing workforce readiness among local youth. The application window for the next cohort opens on April 1, providing more students with the opportunity to participate in this transformative program.
