Iziah Benavidez, 23, of Cook County, is facing multiple felony charges following an alleged retail theft at a Kohl's store in Elmhurst, Illinois, on August 9th. According to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, Benavidez and another individual
allegedly stole backpacks and concealed additional merchandise before leaving the store without payment. Elmhurst police later stopped the suspected vehicle, having received information that Benavidez had also allegedly stolen a battery charger from the same Kohl's earlier that day. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a loaded 10mm Glock 29 with a 24-round capacity magazine and a switch enabling automatic firing. Additionally, a 9mm pistol, previously reported stolen by the Chicago Police Department in January, was found in the glove compartment. Benavidez was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and two counts of retail theft, and was denied pre-trial release.
