The Lowe’s Foundation has initiated the Building Futures Skilled Trades Coalition, a collaborative effort involving over 75 businesses, educators, and workforce organizations. This coalition aims to train and develop one million individuals for skilled
trades careers across the United States by 2035. Founding participants include major companies such as NVIDIA, AT&T, Bank of America, Carrier, General Motors, DEWALT, and Duke Energy, alongside industry bodies like the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). The initiative seeks to address a significant skilled labor shortage in the U.S. construction sector and other trades. The coalition will focus on three key areas: changing public perceptions of skilled trades, investing in and expanding successful training and credential programs, and developing standardized metrics to track progress from training through to employment. This effort builds upon the Lowe’s Foundation’s existing commitment, which includes its Gable Grants program, launched in 2023, supporting skilled trades training in 30 states through a network of 73 community colleges and non-profit organizations.
