What's Happening?
The 2nd Marine Regiment of the U.S. Marine Corps recently conducted a training exercise using the AeroVironment JUMP 20-X, a Group 3 unmanned aerial system. This marked the first time a drone of this size was tested by a conventional Marine unit. Due
to a lack of trained operators within the regiment, AeroVironment contractors were responsible for launching and operating the drone. The JUMP 20-X, equipped with the Switchblade loitering munition, was tested in California, providing ground troops with a longer-range asset. The exercise aimed to enhance the regiment's capabilities by integrating this advanced drone technology, which can fly for over 13 hours and cover a range of 115 miles. The test included launching a Switchblade 300 Block 20 munition from the drone, demonstrating its potential to fill capability gaps in the Marine Corps' current drone programs.
