Maj. Gen. (res.) Eli Zeira, who led the Military Intelligence Directorate during the Yom Kippur War, passed away at the age of 97. Zeira is widely regarded as one of the officials most responsible for
the intelligence failure that preceded the 1973 attack on Israel. Born in Haifa in 1928, Zeira had a distinguished military career, serving in various capacities including as chief of staff to IDF Chief of Staff Moshe Dayan and as Israel's defense attaché in the United States.
