A 'Welcome to Citrus Heights' mural has been partially completed on a sound wall along Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights. The project, which was initially delayed from earlier in 2026 due to various factors including the annual planting of flowers along the wall,
saw approximately half of its intended scope painted over a recent weekend. Thirty volunteers, ranging from toddlers to an octogenarian, participated in the painting under the guidance of muralist Kim Gardner, also known as Erse. The design features the phrase 'Welcome to Citrus Heights' with yellow letters against a sky-blue background, complemented by outlines of birds, butterflies, flowers, leaves, and grass for volunteers to fill in. The chosen pink hue for the flowers in the mural is intended to match the real flowers planted along the wall each spring. Home Depot in Rancho Cordova donated several gallons of paint for the initiative. The completed section is currently undergoing detailing, including shadowing and shading, with an anti-graffiti coating planned for application once the entire mural is finished.
