What's Happening?
Lily Santisi, a 12-year-old competitive dancer from Phoenix, recently received a private dance lesson from the Radio City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. This opportunity was made
possible by the Garden of Dreams and Make-A-Wish foundations. Santisi, who was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer, had to pause her dancing career but was able to return to the dance floor for this special event. During the lesson, she learned choreography from the Rockettes' 'Christmas Spectacular' performance, guided by Bailey Harding and Paige McRae, both experienced Rockettes. The event was a significant moment for Santisi, who had always dreamed of becoming a Rockette.
Why It's Important?
This event highlights the impact of charitable organizations like the Garden of Dreams and Make-A-Wish foundations in providing joy and fulfilling dreams for children facing serious health challenges. For Santisi, the experience not only marked a return to her passion for dance but also offered a sense of normalcy and achievement amidst her health struggles. The involvement of the Rockettes, a renowned dance troupe, underscores the importance of community support and the arts in uplifting individuals during difficult times. Such initiatives can have a profound emotional and psychological impact on young patients and their families, offering hope and inspiration.
What's Next?
Following the dance lesson, Santisi attended a matinee performance of the 'Christmas Spectacular' as part of Garden of Dreams Day, along with 500 other children. This event is part of ongoing efforts by the Garden of Dreams Foundation to provide memorable experiences for children facing adversity. The Rockettes, celebrating their 100th anniversary, continue to engage in community outreach, offering similar opportunities to inspire and support young dancers and fans. The success of this event may encourage further collaborations between performing arts groups and charitable organizations to benefit more children in need.
