What's Happening?
Public San Diego County offices, including family resource centers, libraries, public health centers, and animal shelters, will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day. While most county services will be suspended for the holiday,
essential services such as law enforcement and emergency animal control response will continue to operate. County parks, campgrounds, and neighborhood day-use parks will remain open, as they typically operate 365 days a year. However, specific locations like the Fallbrook Community Center, Lakeside Community Center and Teen Center, Spring Valley Community Center, Spring Valley Gymnasium and Teen Center, 4S Ranch Recreation Office, Valley Center Community Hall, and Adams Park Pool will be closed. Camping reservations can still be made online, but the Department of Parks and Recreation's reservation phone line will not be staffed. All county offices are scheduled to resume normal business hours on Thursday, November 12.
Why It's Important?
The closure of San Diego County offices for Veterans Day is a standard practice to honor military veterans and allow employees to observe the federal holiday. This annual observance underscores the community's respect and gratitude for the service and sacrifices of veterans. While essential services remain operational, the temporary closure of many public facilities can impact residents who rely on these services for administrative tasks, health appointments, or recreational activities. It highlights the balance between honoring national holidays and ensuring continuous public access to non-emergency government functions. The continued operation of parks and campgrounds also provides recreational opportunities for residents during the holiday.
