What's Happening?
Ameresco, in collaboration with The Resilience Authority of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Maryland, is set to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure by adding 82 new charging ports across nine county-owned facilities. The project includes
a mix of Level 2 and DC fast chargers, supporting the county's commitment to transitioning its fleet to electric vehicles. The initiative is expected to result in $350,000 in annual utility savings and reduce required electrical capacity by 2.5 MW, thanks to advanced charging management systems.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of EV charging infrastructure in Maryland is a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions. By facilitating the transition to electric vehicles, the project supports environmental goals and enhances energy efficiency. The initiative also demonstrates the potential for public-private partnerships to drive infrastructure development and innovation. As more regions adopt similar strategies, the growth of EV infrastructure can accelerate the shift towards cleaner transportation, benefiting the environment and public health.
