What's Happening?
New Jersey State Police officers from Troop 'B' Perryville Station conducted a rescue operation for a bear cub found alone in a roadside ditch on I-78 East in Union Township. The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the troopers
responded to reports of the cub's presence. The bear cub was safely removed from the busy highway and transported to the police barracks. Photos shared by the state police on Facebook show the cub snuggling with a trooper and playing hide-and-seek in a police cruiser. The cub was later handed over to the state Department of Environmental Protection for further care.
Why It's Important?
The rescue of the bear cub highlights the role of law enforcement in wildlife protection and community service. Such actions not only ensure the safety of animals but also prevent potential accidents on highways, which can be caused by animals straying onto roads. The incident underscores the importance of collaboration between police and environmental agencies in handling wildlife situations. It also serves as a reminder of the diverse responsibilities of state troopers, extending beyond traditional law enforcement duties to include animal welfare and public safety.
