What's Happening?
A group of modders, known as the Slurm Team, has developed a total conversion mod for the game 'The Simpsons: Hit & Run', transforming it into a Futurama-themed game. This mod, titled 'Futurama: Hit & Run', reimagines Springfield as New New York in the year
3000, complete with iconic elements from the Futurama universe such as pneumatic transportation tubes and mutation-inducing ooze in the sewers. The mod's 3D models are crafted from scratch, aiming to provide an experience akin to an official expansion pack. The mod has received praise from Joe McGinn, the senior game designer of the original 'The Simpsons: Hit & Run'. A demo of the mod will be available for download starting October 19, requiring the original game and a specific mod launcher to run.
Why It's Important?
This development highlights the enduring popularity and cultural impact of both 'The Simpsons: Hit & Run' and Futurama. By breathing new life into a classic game, the modders are not only preserving its legacy but also expanding its appeal to fans of Futurama. This modding effort underscores the creativity and dedication of gaming communities, which continue to innovate and enhance gaming experiences long after the original release. It also reflects the potential for fan-driven content to keep older games relevant and engaging, potentially influencing future game development and the consideration of fan input in official expansions or remakes.
