What's Happening?
U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett of Tennessee recently honored his father's service as a Marine fighting in World War II during the grand opening of Hero’s Hill. This new community, hosted by Mayor Glenn Jacobs, provides homes and new beginnings for veterans
experiencing homelessness in Knox County. The initiative aims to offer shelter, dignity, friendship, and purpose to veterans. The community features 20 tiny homes, each designed with accessible ramps and stairs, a comfortable living area, kitchen, bedroom, and private bathroom. A central gathering space includes a gym and laundry facilities to foster connection and support among residents. The project involved collaborative efforts from local leaders, students from Knox County Schools’ Career and Technical Education program, and the Knox County Detention Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony included patriotic elements such as a flag presentation, the national anthem, and the Pledge of Allegiance, with various leaders and advocates sharing tributes and stories.
