David Hughes, a stroke survivor from Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland, is celebrating his 100th birthday by holding his first solo art exhibition. After suffering a stroke in November 2024, Hughes was motivated
to display his artwork, with proceeds benefiting the charity of the hospital that aided his recovery. His paintings, characterized by bright and bold colors due to his macular degeneration, are on display at the Washington Arts Centre until December 20. The exhibition is supported by Sunderland Culture and aims to raise funds for the hospital's charity, STS, which provides gifts for patients during the festive season.
