Indonesia is pressing social media companies to disclose the number of accounts closed for users under 16, following the implementation of new regulations aimed at protecting children from harmful online
content. The regulations, which came into effect at the end of March, restrict access to digital platforms for children under 16 to prevent exposure to pornography, cyberbullying, online scams, and addiction. Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized the need for transparency in reporting compliance figures. TikTok has reported deactivating 1.7 million accounts of underage users, while other platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram have committed to similar restrictions but have not yet disclosed specific figures.
