What's Happening?
A report by LOGIC Consulting highlights the transformation of the creative and cultural sectors in the MENA region from heavily subsidized areas to dynamic economic systems. These sectors, encompassing media, design, and digital content, are now seen
as significant contributors to employment and economic growth. The creative economy currently accounts for 3.1% of global GDP and 6.2% of employment, with potential to reach 10% of GDP by 2030. The shift involves hybrid financing models where governments act as market makers, encouraging private investment and reducing barriers to entry.
Why It's Important?
The evolution of the creative sectors in the MENA region reflects a broader global trend of recognizing cultural industries as vital economic drivers. This shift can lead to increased job creation, especially for youth, and foster innovation across various industries. By moving towards hybrid financing models, these sectors can attract more private investment, enhancing their sustainability and impact. The report underscores the potential for cultural industries to contribute significantly to economic diversification and development in the region.
