The Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago is set to open an exhibition titled 'If Emmett Till Lived: Freedom on American Ground' on September 10. The exhibition, curated by Sarah Elizabeth Lewis in collaboration with Reverend
Wheeler Parker Jr., imagines an alternate history where Emmett Till, a Black teenager lynched in 1955, survived and lived a full life. The project recontextualizes photographs from the museum's collection to envision Till's potential experiences and contributions to society. The exhibition includes works by renowned photographers such as Gordon Parks and Dawoud Bey, and features contributions from cultural figures like Ava DuVernay and John Legend. The exhibition aims to honor Mamie Till-Mobley's legacy of 'letting the world see' and to challenge viewers to consider the humanity and potential of those lost to racial violence.
