What's Happening?
Globe Telecom has joined a consortium to build the Candle submarine cable system, which will connect Japan and Singapore with additional links to Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The consortium includes SoftBank, Meta, IPS, TM Technology
Services, and XLSmart Telecom. The cable system will feature 24 fiber pairs, enabling higher-capacity, lower-latency transmission to meet growing connectivity demands across Asia. Globe Telecom will provide a cable landing station in Nasugbu, Batangas, Philippines, and expects the system to be operational by 2028.
Why It's Important?
The Candle submarine cable system represents a significant investment in regional connectivity, promising to enhance data transfer speeds and reliability across Asia. For Globe Telecom, this project is an opportunity to strengthen its infrastructure and ensure business continuity during natural disasters. The initiative reflects the increasing demand for robust digital infrastructure to support economic growth and technological advancement in the region.
