The Cacao of Excellence program, initiated by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, is setting new standards for evaluating cacao quality. Led by chocolate scientist Julien Simonis, the program has
developed a standardized process for assessing cacao beans, similar to wine and coffee evaluations. This initiative aims to harmonize the way cacao is discussed and valued, potentially increasing the income of small-scale producers. The program has already benefited producers like Roong Kumpan in Thailand, enhancing product quality and visibility.
