What's Happening?
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is initiating a comprehensive skill development program aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the contractor workforce involved in highway construction. This initiative is designed to address quality concerns
and ensure that infrastructure projects meet high standards. Odisha, along with other states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, has been identified as a key hub for this program. The initiative involves setting up training centers in these regions to upskill workers, thereby improving retention and providing local employment opportunities. The program will not only train new workers but also upskill experienced ones to become 'Master Trainers' who will further train new recruits. The funding for this program will be a collaborative effort, with NHAI providing initial capital and private construction companies contributing through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments.
