What's Happening?
GREW Solar, an Ahmedabad-based solar module manufacturer, has received clearance from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for its G12R High Power solar modules, allowing for their deployment in government-mandated
and utility-scale solar projects across India. This approval is part of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) and confirms the modules' compliance with stringent quality and performance standards. The company plans to expand its manufacturing capacity from 6.5 GW to 11 GW by 2026. The G12R High Power Series, introduced last year, is designed to align with India's renewable energy goals and offers up to 635 Wp output, reducing the number of panels needed per megawatt and lowering associated costs.
Why It's Important?
The ALMM approval is significant as it enhances GREW Solar's ability to participate in India's regulated solar procurement market, supporting the country's ambitious renewable energy targets. By expanding its manufacturing capacity, GREW Solar is positioning itself as a key player in the solar industry, contributing to the domestic manufacturing sector and potentially reducing reliance on imports. This development is crucial for meeting India's goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, promoting energy security and sustainability.
What's Next?
With the ALMM approval, GREW Solar's G12R modules are now eligible for use in various solar projects, including government and net-metering installations. The company plans to continue investing in manufacturing scale-up and technology development to serve both domestic and international markets. This expansion could lead to increased job opportunities and further advancements in solar technology, supporting India's clean energy transition.
