What's Happening?
PNC Brands Group has acquired a majority stake in Ice Cream Factory, a family-owned ice cream manufacturer based in Lebanon, Missouri. Founded in 2019 by Shannon and Katie Imler, Ice Cream Factory specializes
in handcrafted ice creams and co-manufacturing for regional and emerging brands. The acquisition aims to secure long-term production stability for PNC's flagship product, Fanci Freez, and to scale the company's operations. The Lebanon facility, which operates at 30% capacity, will undergo targeted upgrades to modernize processing lines and expand frozen storage. Shannon Imler will retain a significant stake and continue as chief growth officer.
Why It's Important?
This acquisition is significant for PNC Brands Group as it provides the infrastructure needed to scale production and support a growing portfolio of products. By acquiring Ice Cream Factory, PNC can enhance its co-manufacturing capabilities, which is central to its growth strategy. The expansion of production capacity and product lines is expected to create new job opportunities and strengthen PNC's position in the U.S. ice cream market. Additionally, the acquisition aligns with PNC's Menu to Market program, which focuses on developing sweet and savory items.
What's Next?
PNC plans to implement targeted upgrades at the Lebanon facility, including modernizing processing lines and expanding frozen storage. The company also intends to add a new savory production line to diversify its co-manufacturing capabilities. As production ramps up, PNC expects to increase its workforce by 17 to 29 roles over the next year, focusing on production, logistics, food safety, and quality management. The company is also considering international opportunities for Ice Cream Factory's products.
