What's Happening?
The 2026 South County Farm Day took place on January 22 at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City, engaging hundreds of third graders from South Monterey County in an educational experience about agriculture, public safety, and local resources. Organized
by Monterey County Agricultural Education, this annual event is recognized both locally and nationally for its hands-on approach to teaching students about the agriculture industry. Participants included the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, which provided lessons on safety and emergency awareness, and Wonder Wood Ranch, which introduced students to equine therapy. Headstart Nursery Inc. of Gilroy also contributed by offering educational presentations on agriculture fundamentals. The event aims to increase agricultural literacy and awareness among students by providing them with firsthand exposure to farming, food production, and related careers.
